Student Remediation Coaching

Remediation Expertise for Health Profession Schools & Programs

Why Hire a Student Remediation Coach?

No single program can be one-sized-fits-all and serve every student equally. Yet, that’s exactly how we create curricula. All students start and stop as a cohort and are expected to learn at the same pace and reach competency at the same rate using the same resources. Eventually, our design doesn’t work for a student and they begin to struggle. When the student reaches the point of needing a bit more support, we find ourselves as faculty asking, “How much time can I really give to this student?” Eventually, we begin to believe it is unfair to the other students to give so much resource to those who are “the problems.”

We have experienced this firsthand as faculty members. Faculty have to juggle lectures, assessments, committee work, scholarship, research, and professional service. Clinical faculty have to care for patients, manage clinical services, negotiate billing, and secure funding. As much as we want to see all students thrive, finding time as a faculty member to give individualized coaching to a struggling student can be overwhelming. Not to mention some faculty may just not be comfortable with, or have the relevant experience needed to give the student they support they truly need.

Enhanced Practice & Coaching, PLLC provides individualized student support beyond what your faculty can provide. In addition to being certified professional coaches, our coaches have been successful academicians within health profession education and have a passion for coaching students. As currently practicing and licensed health practitioners (and active clinical preceptors), we have firsthand knowledge of the expectations for a health profession student and the rigors of clinical practice. Coaches are familiar and comfortable working with students who require remediation for clinical training due to deficiencies in professionalism, communication, interpersonal dynamics, and/or the affective domain. We also work with students to address barriers occurring outside of the education or training environments that are impeding success, challenges often viewed as outside of the scope of school faculty to address. EPC coaches embrace the challenges of student coaching and we are excited to work with and support your student.

Sponsored Remediation Coaching At-A-Glance

Coaching Scope and Duration
Schools and programs may hire EPC coaches to directly work with their most at-risk students. School administrators and EPC collaborate to determine the ideal scope and outcomes of remediation coaching and identify which students may be referred for coaching. A sponsored coaching agreement and fee structure is agreed upon prior to student referrals. Upon referral, the coach and student meet to ensure both are amendable to the coaching relationship. All parties must willingly participate in the coaching agreement. Whether you are requiring remediation in response to a failed clinical experience or proactively supporting a student who is not on track for success, we can work with you to develop a plan that meets the needs of your student.

Student and coach meet virtually as needed, typically weekly or every other week initially, increasing or decreasing frequency of meetings based on performance benchmarks. Coaches keep schools updated weekly with progress notes. Once active coaching is completed, Coaches routinely reach out to students to ensure they are staying connected with needed resources at no additional fee.

Fee Structures and Payment
We recognize schools are highly invested in the outcomes of their students for many reasons. When contracting EP&C for remediation coaching, you are investing in a future practitioner, alumnus, preceptor, and school ambassador. Typically, remediation coaching fees are based on time spent engaged in live coaching using a hourly-rate. Preparation, resource development, student follow-up, and program communications are included in the fee agreement.

Common Features of Remediation Coaching Include (but are not limited to) the Following:
